Wa. State 360 Deputy Saul Gallegos was shot and killed after stopping a vehicle near Lake Chelan [26 June 2003]. He had advised dispatch that he was investigating a report about a man with a suspended license, who was driving in the area. A short time later, a citizen used Deputy Gallegos' radio to report that an officer had been shot. The suspect was apprehended three days later in Connell, Washington. The man was found guilty of aggravated first degree murder on October 28, 2004, and sentenced to life in prison. On September 25, 2009, he stabbed a fellow inmate to death. Deputy Gallegos had been with the Chelan County Sheriff's Department for seven months, and had previously served with the Chelan Police Department for seven years.
